East of Ipswich

A view across the River Orwell to the Port of Felixstowe, on a walk around Shotley, on a peninsula between the River Stour and the Orwell. The marina at Shotley was full of handsome boats. Further up the river were some disused oyster beds after which we passed a small vineyard which, we were later told in the Bristol Arms, no longer produces any wine. Pity.

St Mary's Church has a very smartly maintained graveyard, where British and German naval dead are buried, and a very colourful interior. We then passed Erwarton Hall, which has a very odd Tudor gatehouse and, as you might expect in Suffolk, llamas.

Sadly, it has gone cloudy and cold so we won't be able to sit outside and watch the sun go down as we did last night.
