THE PINK GULL
Sometimes one can see at the beach a pink coloured gull. We often wonder how this could have happened. Some gull love to stand near or on top of a fish hut, where they also sell fish and chips, and with the chips there comes tomato ketchup and could that be the cause of their weird colour? If they would eat of the ketchup?
This gull stood near other gulls, but just a bit apart. When they flew away when a human or dog came nearer, this gull was the last one to fly away.
Piet Hein and I cycled to the sea in the morning. On the balcony the weather had been warm again, but when we came near the dunes, the wind that blew hard was rather cold.
We first walked to the North, against the wind. That is important, to feel how far you want to go, knowing that the way back will be a lot easier.
In the afternoon we were a lot lazier, reading and only later I went to the ponds in our vicinity, to meet the geese, the swan, the coots and that was my main reason for my walk, to see if I could come near the Grebe family, that had at least one baby, being carried on mother's back.
The mother evidently stayed safe under overhanging branches, and I saw the father diligently diving and coming with a silver fish in his bill to his mate, to feed her, or the baby (?), It was too far to see what was the case.
Piet Hein made a pizza for the three of us. Tasted very good.
My haiku:
A deserted beach
Many white sails far away
At the horizon
And the quote by Thomas Fuller, M.D. in Gnomologia, 1732:
Comparison, more than realitymakes wo/men happy or wretched.
