Lakota Wolf Preserve

This weekends camping trip was at Lakota Wolf Preserve in Knowlton Township, Warren County, NJ.

On the Sunday we went up the trail from the campsite to do a tour of the wolf preserve. They have 3 packs of Tundra, Timber, and Arctic wolves. The place is run by a husband and wife team.

While on the tour the guy noticed the wolves were a bit skittish in one of the packs and when he went in he heard a rattlesnake in there. He sent his wife of to go and get a trash can while he caught the snake with one of the those pincer things. He put in the trashcan to take further up the mountain to release. Apparently when the weather is really dry like it has been recently the rattlesnakes come down from further up the mountain to find food. He has to catch them and take them back up the mountain because they can kill the wolves if they bite them.

After everybody drained out to go to the bobcat section me and a few other guys with cameras hung back to try and get a couple more shots without the crowds in the way. The guy then told we had to follow the others as he was locking up the wolf section... as I was walking down the path talking with him I started noticing a strange sound... I then realized he was carrying the rattlesnake in the trash can. I'd forotten about that I said... Its a not very happy in there he said.... Something of an understatement!
