Blackheath Day
There's always something going on in Blackheath.
Today's excuse for a get together is Blackheath Day, to commemorate the naming of Blackheath by Governor Lachlan Macquarie.
He originally named it ‘Hounslow’, but had second thoughts on his return trip from Bathurst in 1815, as he thought it had a ‘charred, wild open heath-like appearance’.
Local groups of all sorts sing, dance and otherwise strut their stuff.
This is the performance troupe from the Community Access Service.
They are very much part of the community and always participate in town activities.
And there's a big cake cutting by the one of the oldest and youngest in town.
After which we all have a piece and catch up with friends we haven't seen for a while.
I forget how to link to large, but I think you'll enjoy this more if you click the triangles.
