Retirement Day One

The first day of the rest of my life
A lot of ironing
Plant a quince tree
Move tomatoes from greenhouse to a raised bed
Visit the dump.
On the way back from the dump I visited the church of St Mary in Houghton on the hill. Fascinating little church with ancient wall paintings and fascinating recent history. It was "discovered" in the 1990's as a ruin and renovated by local people. During the work a large number of wall paintings were found that dated back over a thousand years. They are unique in the UK and very rare in Europe. Some of the paint has been analysed and found to contain a chemical that would have only been available in China at the time. Found in rural Norfolk. Incredible. Makes you think, an old tumbled down ivy covered ruin that could easily been knocked down hiding such treasures. What else is out there?
My description is limited and probably not very accurate. For the real story seehere and here
