Burial mound
Bahrain had, at one stage, hundreds of thousands of these burial mounds and in fact the country has been described as the world's largest cemetery. The mounds are approximately 5,000 years old and date from the Dilmun era (Bronze Age). Unfortunately, many of them have now been lost due to urbanisation.
The structure inside the mounds is interesting, providing a walled chamber within and outer wall. Skeletons are often found with a number of artefacts including pots, ivory, copper weapons and bracelets. (Thanks Tanya for the info)
Seems I am going to be doing quite a few blips from my car for the next few weeks. It is just too hot to spend time outside!!
