We attended a lovely event today.  It was the Jewish naming ceremony of this little cutie which was held on her first birthday. 

The naming ceremony for girls is a tradition of modern Judaism, and is usually held shortly after birth, but this is the fourth child and the parents confessed that they had a little trouble getting it all together at that time and decided the first birthday might be better.  It proved to be a good decision because the child was so engaging throughout the ceremony, much to everyone’s delight.  

This lucky little girl had two sets of grandparents there as well as one set of great-grandparents, and one set of great-grandparents was in attendance via Skype.  She was named after one of her deceased Jewish great grandmothers and a deceased Norwegian great, great-grandmother.  Her parents told the wonderful stories of these amazing women.  This was followed by a lovely lunch and cake for the birthday girl.  

It is also a tradition in their family that on the first birthday the child gets a little cake of their own.  So here she is, the birthday girl, freshly named, wearing some of her cake and looking a bit partied out.
