Landmark

Anyone driving around South and West Yorkshire will be very familiar with this tower.  It can be seen for miles around and often acts as a 'welcome home' icon, particularly when travelling on the M1.
Completed in 1971, the 330.5-metre (1083-ft) concrete tower is the tallest self-supporting structure in the UK and was awarded Grade II Listed status in 2002.
Its correct name is the Arqiva Tower and it transmits digital tv & radio programs to a 40 mile radius.
There are plans to erect a temporary mast - of similar height - adjacent to this one so that maintenance and upgrading of the original equipment can take place without interrupting transmissions.
