Day Out

A work trip took me to Southampton today, to visit the RJ Mitchell Wind Tunnel at Southampton University. RJ Mitchell was the chief engineer of Supermarine, and the designer of the Spitfire, along with many other aircraft.

For client confidentiality I can't show the main tunnel, or what we were up to, but in the lobby of the building is much much smaller wind tunnel, used as a demo teaching aid. It has a working section where you can build Lego models and test them to see how much drag / lift they have. Pretty cool thing really.

This is a shot of that 'toy' wind tunnel through the flow straighteners, up to the working section, with the fan behind.
