Not the Solusi

My trips to Ikea are never short, even when intended to be. I went in armed with an Ikea app enabled shopping list and emerged with everything on it, plus just 2 extra impulse shopping bits: a bin and a plant. I call that an improvement.

I am pretty proficient in the national language and have no protestations to it being used widely as a common tongue here. However, I take offence when it creeps and usurps in all institutions if only for the reason that it is the national language. And then there is this: Solusi. Neither Malay nor English. Just a feeble attempt at Malay-fying English words to appear contemporary, chic and in. The correct word is Penyelesaian. Many things wrong in Malaysia where language and nationalism is concerned, but misusing and abusing words can't be the solution.

In this one blip I realise I come off as pedantic and rigid. It's ok, that's why I go to yoga.
