Caught in the Act

This wasp was busy laying eggs in her nest....which was attached to the inside of our hot tub cover.  That's why it is upside down, because it was nicely hanging from the cover until we opened it this morning.  We hadn't opened it for 3 days so she moved right into the cozy warm space.  The extra shows her just after laying an egg.  I think she was stunned because the lens was almost touching her and she never moved (thank goodness!)  Sadly for her, those eggs will never hatch but, then, she won't be around to notice.  I love nature but I have to draw the line somewhere!
