Precious Sight . . .
. . . and sight is precious.
I went to school with 'Jan' and have been good friends with him since his family immigrated here in the mid-70's. He was always very active - working at Argos at the weekends all the way through school and continuing all the way through university, where he got his business degree. He now entered management and held increasingly senior roles.
From age 10, he and his older brother learnt karate and by 22 had won medals for GB at World Championships on more than one occasion . . . so this is an active, ambitious guy who has worked hard, played hard and strived always to get the most out of life. . .
He has been with his (now) wife for over 25 years and they have a delightful 9yr old daughter who is the absolute joy of their life but he has now been told he has Macular Degeneration. His sight is failing and is now so reduced that he views a computer screen from 6 inches. He has been signed off work for the last 3 years. Life has really changed - and with it, his priorities, as a house-husband and primary carer to their little girl.
He made me really think when he said: "maybe I didn't really need to work all that those extended days and extra weekends. Leaving home before she woke up and coming home after she got to bed, I hardly saw her days at a time. Sharing those special moments with (her) taking her to & from school, I now realise what I was missing. Every minute of seeing her is so precious. "
My blip is from my garden. It's very simple.
But then again, maybe it's not . . .
