Spring at Fairburn Ings.
Looking forward to tea as we have just collected some asparagus from the farm we go to Nr Cawood. It wasn't closed after all. Just a very late season, and he only started cutting it this week. What a relief! We bought some from a farm Nr Harrogate at three times the price, not graded so you got all shapes and sizes and the taste wasn't nearly as good.
Called at Fairburn Ings on the way back, and had a walk round.
The hedges and trees are looking wonderful with the may blossom just coming out, and full of wild flowers.
Lots of bird song, but now difficult to see them because of all the leaves.
However among other birds and ducks we did see two little terns which had nested on an island, also a lonely little ringed plover.
A family of coots, and several swans having a battle royal! Not sure why.
Our highlight today was the Great Crested Grebe with a young one. She carried it about on her back and then it swam by her side, while dad was busy feeding them both.
I only had my pocket camera with me so the photos aren't very clear.
So decided on a collage.
The weather was quite warm, and the sun came out too. It didn't start raining until we were on our way home, which was lucky.
