Meanwhile....

...back in the Bitterroot. Admired this fine group of mules while heading up the West Fork past their spring-green pasture. Mules are great trail animals. Their sure-footed, steady gait and ability to carry a huge amount of gear into these mountains that loom directly behind them makes them a packer's best friend. You can't over-load a mule...they just won't move. Many packers ride a mule rather than a horse because of their ability and stamina to negotiate the narrow canyon wall trails. Fabulous animals...love the mules. Just as stubborn as I am.
