Whitethroat

This young whitethroat was the first bird we caught in the mist nets this morning. Fortunately the wind held off just enough for us to catch two more birds, two adult chiffcaffs. The area is part of a regular bird ringing project looking at farmland birds in the winter. Today we were using it as a demonstration for members of the public. As a matter of interest, the feather patterns on the birds suggested that they were not feeding too well, almost certainly a result of the poor weather.
