Best Laid Plans

So, as we left Inverness yesterday evening driving south towards our next camping spot at Fort Augustus the rain came in. Lightly at first, that sort of summer drizzle we all know so well by now, but then the torrential stuff (which we all know so well now too I guess) with the rivers of rain water running along the side of the street and lochs of water appearing in all the roadside fields.

By the time we got to Fort Augustus the idea of pitching our little tent again was fast losing appeal but before we could bail out as a family of wusses, the older of the little ones threw up in the back seat of the car, all over himself, the car seat, all the sleeping bags and the camping pillows which were at his feet, making camping impossible for a day or two.

With the sick one patched up and calmed down we drove on, searching for alternative indoor accommodation and eventually found a place just outside Fort William where we stayed, dried out and cleaned up. The little heated towel rail did a good job of drying the sleeping bags I washed out in the bath.

Anyway, with the rain continuing non stop today we spent most of the morning holed up in our little room playing happy families (literally), snap and our new favourite a deadly sixty card game.

In the afternoon, the day took a turn for better when we happened upon the Ice Factor in Kinlochleven and the little ones scaled the heights of one of the UK's biggest indoor climbing walls. What fantastic upper body strength they both have! A brilliant instructor who really clicked with the little ones and great coffee and muffins for my lovely husband and I.

Tomorrow - the aim is to get back on the bike and back in the tent.
