Modern Erection

This is the mast at Wenvoe transmitting station in the Vale of Glamorgan. This modern erection is a mile or two from the ancient erection I blipped last week.

The current transmitter mast dates from 1985. It replaced two earlier masts dating from 1952 and 1963. The mast has been structurally improved and extended twice in the last ten years. It is held up by a network of massive steel cables that require regular maintenance.

The ancient burial chamber is about 6,000 years old. Occasionally the landowner shovels a bit of mud against the stones to counter rainwater erosion.

To be fair the 248m mast is about a hundred times taller than the burial chamber!
