Red-eyes and a sweet song
Had a great day with my naturalist group and saw some great sights, including several of these little red-eyed vireos. These birds nest in our area and are commonly heard singing during the spring and early summer. They are, for me, hard to photograph because they tend to feed in trees, darting in and out of the leafiest areas. Today, this one came out for the briefest of moments to belt out a song, allowing me a few shots. I liked this one because it shows his name-sake eyes.
Other highlights today were many indigo buntings and both kinds of native cuckoo (black-billed and yellow-billed) as well as a nice array of warblers. The weather was perfect.
Meanwhile, at the Bistro, things seem to be progressing on schedule with lots of activity in the nest boxes. Lots of baby house finches around, too, making a racket and driving their parents nuts. Not that different than human toddlers, actually.
I posted three other pics from today on Flickr, starting HERE with a phoebe with a mouthful of dragon.
It's the weekend...have fun and be safe out there!
