The Dark Side

Interesting eyes, I say.  Tattoos?  No, he says, paint.  I'm Goth.  I come from the dark side.  There's lots of us around.  He showed me "Dad" tattooed on one arm, and "Mom" on another arm, and the name of his daughter, and on the inside of his right arm, a series of scars from self-inflicted cuts including one which was just healing.  Each scar has a story he explained; the most recent one was to record the death of his infant son (SIDS) two years ago this month.  I really had the feeling that it would have been more correct to say he came from the sad side.
