Pole Vault

The Great City Games in Manchester City Centre is a terrific, free athletics event, held annually since 2009.  This is Anicka Newell of Canada, who came second in the Women's Pole Vault. Great Britain's Lucy Bryan came fifth. Sally Peake, also of GB, came third.  The competition was won by the USA's Katie Nageotte.

The men's long jump was won by GB's Greg Rutherford who is the current Commonwealth, European, World and Olympic Champion. USA's Melvin Echard came second.

After watching the jumping events in Albert Square, I watched the sprints along Deansgate, including the Men's T44 100 metres; GB's Tiffany Porter winning the Women's 100 metres Hurdles;  the men's 110 metres hurdles; the women's 100 metres, won by Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands, who the commentator just had to call "the flying Dutchwoman;" and finally the Men's 100 metres, won by 40 year old Kim Collins of St Kitts and Nevis, beating into second place 20 year old American, Trayvon Bromell.
