Lesser Sand Plover(Charadrius mongolus)
This female Lesser Sand Plover is looking a little disheveled, which usually means around this time that there are chicks about, but sadly I did not see them, such is their camouflage and their defense act of crouching down and being completely still. I have since seen(on social media) a very accomplished Omani photographer has some incredible photographs of the most beautiful little Plover chicks, so I obviously need more patience and staying power in this heat. At least these birds can cool off in the pools around and the shore! This bird by the way is around 20cm in length against the Greater Sand Plover who is around 24cm from beak tip to tail.
