Brownfield with poplars...
I was working all day under a cloudless blue sky on a local brownfield (formerly developed land) site - by the time we left just before 5pm it was 28C, though a stiff breeze had made the heat tolerable.
Parts of this particular site were almost totally dominated by the vivid yellow flowers of perforate St.John's-wort, making a perfect contrast with the sky. The poplars reminded me of Van Gogh's famous cypresses - somehow I think he would have enjoyed this rather more urban combination.
As we had no food in the house we went to our local country pub for a meal. Despite being a Monday night it was packed with people making the most of an unexpectedly glorious summer evening. The long wait for our food was well worth it - the perfect end to another busy day.
