Waiting in the Rain

Well. There you go. I almost got to bring you a Blipfoto of the Flying Scotsman as the train, hauled by the famous locomotive and  heralding itself as the Cathedrals Express steamed through Hampshire this afternoon.
After standing for over an hour in the rain by a level crossing just outside Southampton, I, and the 40 or so other train enthusiasts gathered at that spot, were rewarded by the sight of the train as it chuffed into view, and by us in a flash.
And by all accounts we were not the only soles to brave the very damp weather and idly wait for the train, running later than expected on its circular tour of south Hampshire. I could not even get close to three other spots which I considered as likely vantage points, because of the crowds who had turned out. Any hopes of a more panoramic view were dashed by the incessant rain ruining visibility.
So this spot gave a close up and rewarding view. Just one wee problem.  Having waited all that time to see the glamorous restored locomotive, an icon of the steam age of the railways, I forgot all about the fact I was looking for a photo as well until it was almost too late.

Still I have consoled myself by watching plenty of video on You Tube and other web places this evening.   More satisfying, I did get to see the train!
