Today we all woke early to drive to NL to go on an water exploration of the Naardermeer nature reserve with the Hartog family. The reason we all managed to clear our agendas (with 4 teenagers amongst us, more difficult than we imagined) to celebrate two special birthdays of my parents in law - Alie's birthday is in March, Gerard's in early June.
We explored the nature reserve on a "whispering" boat so no fumes or noise, we had our own very knowledgable guide, Job, who explained about the nature and history of the area. One of the highlights was visiting the viewing tower overlooking the cormorant colony (we were eye-level with quite a few cormorant families!). After our boat excursion we had lunch together. Despite the weather forecast we had dry and relatively warm weather (until we drove back to Belgium and were met with heavy rain).
