Island of slate
To Easdale (here looking south to Scarba), a tiny island once a huge source of roofing slate, with quarries as deep as 90 metres below sea level. Huge quantities of waste slate are still piled up; in today's bright light the heaps of flat stones took on the appearance of an enormous sleeping scaly beast (or beasts). Dramatic clouds too. Lots of pictures in the big camera to sort, but not today ...
