Monument

I remember the day that this monument was unveiled - 1st January 2000. It was an icy day and the residents of Irongray gathered in the church car park, relieved to have survived the Millennium Bug. The designs were based on drawings by children at Shawhead School and carved by a local stonemason. The youngest and oldest residents cut the ribbon - oldest was my neighbour, Mary Mitchell, well into her 90s and in a wheelchair with a rug over her knees. It already seems such a long time ago.
