Delight!

We've had a Steller's Jay visiting our backyard deck suet feeders off and on for the past couple of weeks, but it's been quick to notice an enthralled photographer sneaking up on it from inside the house, so I was delighted to get this photo today, even with part of the bird in shadow.

Stellar's Jays are fairly large birds, measuring 11.8 - 13.4 inches (30 -34 cm) in length, with a wingspan of 17.3 inches (44 cm) and weighing 3.5 - 4.9 ounces (100 - 140 g). The crest of this one is flat on its head, perhaps caused by its crouching posture, as opposed to the bird in this fine view.

The "wildlife" on our deck is a never-ending source of pleasure, education -- and often blips!
