Hidden Gem

In a rather run down part of town is this church which was designed by E W Pugin who died shortly after work on it commenced. It was completed by his half-brother Peter Paul Pugin in 1877.

It was founded by the priest monks from Ampleforth Abbey. The church is now owned and served by the priests from the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter. It no longers serves as a parish church but as a shrine church. Here they celebrate the Tridentine Mass and other sacraments according to the Roman Rites as existed prior to the second Vatican Council.
