White Mountain hike
This is the bit of road to the village of Zorba, in the White Mountain foothills, where the best of lunches awaited us. We deserved it: we'd climbed steeply before traversing a difficult hillside where tufts of thyme deceived by looking firmly rooted when in fact the soil was so dry that an incautious step would have landed one sliding down a steep jaggy slope. As it was, several of us emerged scratched and with unravelling socks ...
But lunch revived; the weather was perfect, and we had an interesting further descent down a dramatic gorge.
I couldn't keep this up, but I can't bear the thought that it's over.
