Brown Thrasher

The source I consulted about this bird says it's tricky to see them and they are rarely found in backyards. I think they have gotten used to our yard, though - I saw one a year or two ago also. But they don't do a lot of flying, stay close to the ground, and shelter in thick growth, so they're hard to see. I happened to be looking out the window and saw this one. I had to struggle a little to get a photo because I didn't want to open the door and frighten it away, so I had to do some contortions to get a shot through the part of the window that wasn't covered by the screen. In the extra is a view that shows its brown back.
