In the eaves
Went on the tour around the upper levels of St Magnus cathedral today. It was fantastic, can't believe I've not got round to it before.
Not for those with a fear of heights or confined spaces but as my friend, who isn't keen on either, discovered it is well worth taking a deep breath and being brave.
Very informative and entertaining, the guide, Ross, looked after our small group and really conjured up the fascinating past of the building and the people who walked these tiny corridors and spiral staircases. Not to mention the view from the clock tower and some breathtaking views down into the body of the cathedral.
I can't recommend this highly enough. It's very reasonably priced and extremely good value. If you're visiting Orkney be sure to book in advance, there are only 6 people per tour and only a few tours during the week.
