Solitary tulip

I was down at Arduaine today to make a few notes - I must write my
monthly blog for the 'Arduaine Friends' website.

So much in flower, with many rhododendron species still going strong and lots of hybrids. Azaleas too in full flow and many candelabra primulas - all the usual spring stuff in fact.

On the Old Rockery were three flowers of Tulipa sprengeri, a wild species from the Pontic area of Turkey - the same location as the dreaded Rhododendron ponticum and the lovely yellow deciduous azalea, Rhododendron luteum, formerly Azalea pontica. I must remember to get hold of some seed of this tulip.
