Art tour, York University
Today was finally the day. Like many staffers at York University we have had intentions to take the weekly tour of a number of outdoor sculptures on campus but we never get around to it. Last week, Robert, one of our staff surveyed our office to finally get it done. Luckily, the weather was fabulous after a spell of ridiculous heat. A bunch of us got a guided tour by a staffer from the Art Gallery of York University (AGYU) but we were delayed because just before we left to meet our guide, our building's fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate. Fifteen minutes later we got started and this sculpture was our first stop.
Fontana d'Italia (fountain of Italy) is one of the newer pieces on campus and dates from 1993. Created by acclaimed Italian artist Enzo Cucchi, our guide said it collects rainwater then drops it from the top. No rain, no water. Cucchi has exhibited at The Guggenheim, MOMA, Tate, and Art Institute of Chicago.
Here is the page on the AGYU site for this piece where you can read more about it and the other sculptures on campus. The photo there is old. There is a building between the sculpture and the Art Building in the distance.
I have blipped other YorkU artworks:

Four Squares in a Square by George Rickey
