The Cow Did What?

Ever thought about some of the odd nursery rhymes that we used to say. Some of them make absolutely no sense. For instance:

Hey Diddle Diddle ..... Who?
The cat and the fiddle ..... Clearly Southern US, the fiddle that is.
The cow jumped over the moon ..... Say what? Cows with super strength and can jump over the moon (forget the space part) but choose to stay within the confines of a 5' fence. Riiiiiiiiiight.
The little dog laughed to see such a sight ..... OK I got ripped as a kid. My dog never laughed.
And the dish ran away with the spoon ..... Why are we so cruel to our kitchenware and does the fork know?

Hmmm, maybe I put too much thought into it.
