Close encounters of the bovine kind
I had time this morning to take Pepper for a good walk round to New Hutton.
A fair morning, house martins nesting, some baby calves.
And then we had to cross the stile into the final few fields before home. The gate had a beware of the bull notice, but we weren't impressed. There were however about 20 steers lying in a group between us and the next stile, so we went uphill of them in the hope that they would stay put. No such luck, they all came cantering over to see what we were. I waved my arms and made weird noises, which they enjoyed, then galloped off up the hill. We hurried along towards the exit, but of course back they came for another look.
This went on for some minutes, with us edging closer to our escape route until we made a final dash for it and hurtled over the stile with our friends in close pursuit.
Phew! I then felt brave enough to take their photo!
