Is it me your looking for ?
We set off just after 7.30am and made our way up the A9. Slow as far as Tain as we were behind a slow moving van with a trailer. The rest of the way was fine. We stopped at Tesco in Wick for breakfast. Golpsie Coffee shop was nt open when we arrived there and the lovely cafe in Lybster by the harbour did nt open until 11 so Tesco came to our rescue :)
We stopped for a quick visit to Duncansby head just incase we could see the Ocra but not today. We walked to the cliffs and saw the Fulmars and the end of the cliffs lined in layers of kittiwake , guillemots and razorbills. Further along I saw a few puffin. I think most were out to sea fishing but I was pleased to see these few comical birds.
On to catch the Ferry from Gills Bay to Orkney. Always exciting as you see the Pentalina coming into sight. As we left the bay we were joined by a pod of Common Dolphin jumping along side the boat including a very small baby.
A safe but blowy crossing plenty of seabirds and as we approached St Margarets Hope the sun came out , yipee :)
We popped in 'Poppy's' craft shop and I bought two lovely brooches out of my birthday money, one of a hare and the other a little lizard on a leaf.
We spent some time sitting and eating Orkney icecream in the Beautiful Community Garden that was a mass of bloom.
Looked round the Smiddy Museum and then onto Burray where we are staying for a few nights.
After a fish and chip supper by the water we went for a walk on the beach and then out for a drive around South Ronaldsay. We were stopped in our tracks by a herd of cows , cafes and a bull as they were being moved to a new field. The farmer was very cheerful and helpful. He was laughing saying he thought it would be quiet enough in the evening to do it but the nice evening had brought a few cars out.
On the way back after being slightly disappointed at not seeing the owl where we've seen him before I saw one on the fence just at the side of the road. A beautiful bird and surpringly big.
Having trouble with my laptop at the moment which I hope will fix itself soon !
