Church Anniversary Weekend

One of the three events today, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the building and 8th of the City Of Edinburgh Methodist Church was to demonstrate our favourite toy or hobby, so I took along a few paperweights.

My choice was somewhat limited by the fact that nearly all are still packed away having been emptied out of the display cabinet during our recent building work and I have not got round to putting anything back. I might have taken more but they are heavy and I expected to be carrying them on the bus, but Mr Flum kindly offered to take and collect me. I selected a dozen which have some significance for one reason or another.

Other displays included cardmaking, unusual embroidery techniques, jigsaws, china teasets, lots of Lego (complete with train set) and an eclectic collection of housebuilder's literature, a large collection of owls, some live creepy-crawlies, a collection of early cheese labels and a few paintings. On the whole an eclectic mix of interests.

This session was followed by a beetle drive and then, then...the moment for which we had been rehearsing so diligently, our performance of  Handel's Chandos anthem No. 9, 'O praise the Lord with one consent' and Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury. Our soloists were superb, we muddled through to the end and choir and audience enjoyed themselves immensely.
