Reunion

We drove down to Gaillac today to meet a man I hadn't seen face to face for more than 30 years. John Beattie, former Scottish rugby international and British Lion, was on a cycling holiday with friends to help return him to full fitness after a hip replacement operation. His recovery from the operation was aided by the reading of my Enzo Files series, which helped distract him from the pain. We had a great night, with meat cooked over the embers of an open fire. We laughed a lot and exchanged memories and anecdotes - in a restaurant mentioned in "The Critic". After drinks back at the hotel we took this pic - one of the few occasions when 6'2" yours truly was made to feel small! As for our first encounter back in the early eighties, that's a story for another day!
