Boscastle

We spent Saturday morning at the house as the farmer and various of his relatives tried to sort out the WiFi. Everything is so new in this house! Eventually after a fellow called Chris wandered about the house in his stockinged feet, with a laptop in his hand, it was declared operational. Such a relief for two teenage boys who were desperate to contact friends, and to me, missing blipfoto.
So we went out for the afternoon to Boscastle, a village on the coast situated in a steep valley by the sea. In 2004 a prolonged thunderstorm in the hills above the village resulted in a torrent of water that swept away buildings, cars and bridges. The residents had to be rescued from their rooftops by helicopter, I remember so well the amazing scenes on tv.
Now it is all restored and the little gift shops were busy with bank holiday visitors. We walked right down to the end of the harbour, close to the sea. It was a dull day, misty and grey, and for a long time we could hear thunder rumbling in the hills.
We saw lightning strikes on our way home, and there had been a lot of rain.
The storm had been bad, back at the house, and lightning had taken out the Internet for several farms in the area! So no contact again.
I have been entering a long catch-up, once the WiFi was reconnected on Sunday afternoon.
