Hanging On A Star

Weather didn't know what to do today, the sun came out just long enough for butterflies to take to the wing. Our stand of greater stitchwort is starting to go over. I was pleased to capture this green veined white supping at a 'star'. The scientific name of this plant, which I know as shirt buttons, is Stellaria meaning little star.

This butterfly has quite a complicated sex-life in which mate guarding, aphrodisiacs, nuptial gifts, polyandry, and anti-aphrodisiacs feature. The male has scales on his wings that smell of lemon verbena
