Memorial Day

As its Memorial Day, I decided to use a photo I took about a week ago of some beautiful poppies growing in a median in Fort Worth, which has been planted by Karen (aka "The Herb Lady), a friend of Dan's.
The poppy became a symbol of remembrance of the soldiers who have died in wars, after a Canadian poet, John McCrae wrote a poem which starts out, "In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row"
Today is the day when we stop to remember the more than 75 million battle deaths so far since 1900. This is not including many more civilian war casualties! Not exactly a celebration, but we are doing the traditional American thing of "grilling out" with family later on.
