The Faraway Tree
This struck me as being a bit of a Faraway Tree when I was looking through my photos of today. We like the Faraway Tree here. When the other half is late home and I need to read to the kids together at bedtime they tend to get something Enid Blyton (sometimes Roald Dahl). It's amazing how often I get a little bubble of excitement as I realise I can remember what happens on the next page, something AMAZING, like a tap with lemonade coming out of it, something that I remember being enthralled and enchanted by when I was little. Reading and re-reading the bits that sparked my imagination.
We've read the Faraway Tree, then went to the whole of the Wishing Chair collection, now back to the Faraway Tree collection.
I love reading these books again and can see my buying books for the kids when they don't want me to read to them any more and instead fighting to get to them before they do..
We went to Caldicot Castle this morning. The mutt was going to go too but it was so warm I didn't have the heart to stick him in the car for an hour each way and then drag him around in the heat. It was lovely, a walk around the castle first, a play in the park, some castle exploring then a picnic and an ice cream in the shade under the trees outside the castle.
After a SHOUTY drive home (sigh) I then dug up a bit of the lawn to plant some stuff that needed planting. I'm not sure a shady, clay and rock filled bed is where it needed to be, but better than frying on the drive in pots. I think.
