With lots of sage advice from various people, I'm getting better at listening to my body and doing what it tells me, and with less self-judgement - which isn't easy. I started to try to spend some time at the computer in the morning but my mind just glazed over. I was being told to rest, and that's what I did, barely moving from the couch! Those who know me well will understand how strange that is.
It was made easy by a feast of sport, including the Monaco Grand Prix and the IPL Final. Both were riveting sporting contests. I watched more episodes of "Peaky Blinders" than I care to admit. I'm a bit late coming to this, previously avoiding it as just yet another gangster show, but it has to be the best thing I've watched all year.
I then, out of curiosity, dipped into the new "Top Gear", having often watched the show in recent years as the boys loved it so much - and I will admit that I generally enjoyed it too. The formula was getting tired so I felt it was in need of a revamp. Sadly, we didn't get that. It's the same formula, now looking even more tired. It was certainly tiring watching it! The old team had the rather special ability to make finely scripted television look and feel spontaneous, just three lads having fun. Now it comes across as heavily scripted, and not giving the impression of anyone really having much fun at all.
The best thing about the show was that, having caught the Netflix habit of just staying on the couch to watch the next episode, I caught the documentary that followed it, about the Battle of Jutland. It's an extraordinary and desperately sad story, but totally fascinating. So ... that was my day, other than a ten minute walk for a blip. I always find something happening on my doorstep.
