Battle of Jutland commemoration
It was interesting watching the Commemoration on BBC this morning. It stayed dry and everyone looked very smart. Does nt feel like it was yesterday when we were there. We looked out for the man we sat next to at the Fiddlers Rally. He had an invite and was telling us all the security checks he had to go through and that they all had to be in the Cathedral one and a half hours before the event took place. A long time to sit !
We were lucky to go inside before it was closed to the public on Saturday. The BBC had cables everywhere but they could nt be seen today. All seemed to run very smoothly and it was emotional to hear stories from both sides of the conflict. So many lives lost or changed.
Boats had also set sail from the Cromarty Firth, just up the road from us,to join the British Grand Fleet on 31st May 1916. I thought of them today sailing out to sea and not knowing what was in front of them. Many of the injured were brought back to Invergordon and the remaining ships were returned to the River Clyde Shipyard to have the damage mended.
Here is my ceramic poppy that we were very lucky to purchase from the few that were sold from the Tower of London display.
