Kontonan Village

High in the Batutumanga mountains of Tana Toraja recent Kontonan (houses) exist alongside the original Kontonan - some of the latter around 400 years old. The status of the family of the traditional Kontonan here is shown by the number of Buffalo horn mounted at the front of the structure.

The sky is not actually blown out in the photo - it is cloud, the mountain being at an altitude of about 3,000 metres.
