Peak District
After an uneventful night in the motorhome we woke to a day rather different to the forecast one. Mist, Fog and drizzle was the forecast in reality it was overcast, cool and dry and the day turned out very pleasant with the odd splash of sun shine. We thought it might be quite nice for granddaughter to go down one of the Caverns in Castleton. There were long queues and we didn’t fancy wasting our time in one of them. So we decided to let her explore Odin Mine, now managed by the National Trust. Here Lead Ore (Galena) was mined and the only evidence to day is a single hole at the base of the hillside. Going inside this opening gives some idea of what the miners faced and looking round the walls one can see Galena and also (if you look hard) the odd vein of Blue John. It is open access land so you are free to explore as you wish. We the crossed the road to see the crushing circle where or from the mine and others was crushed prior to being transported for smelting. After this we had a lovely picnic and later travelled to Chesterfield to see granddaughter’s Great Grandmother.
Today’s blip is buttercup with fly and extra is a tiny roadside flower (pink) whose name I do not know.
Back Blip for yesterday posted.
