Like many of us blind, featherless & hungry (metaphorically speaking), these new-borns are completely dependent on their parents for many days or weeks. Precocial young, on the other hand, are relatively mature and mobile from the moment of birth or hatching, and can often forage for themselves straight away (e.g. Lapwing chicks.)

Made a bit of a mistake with the earlier 13th May nest post making reference to Robins (now corrected.) Turns out it's a pair of beautiful Redstart that are nesting in my toolbox - even more exciting! The male & female can be seen hopping around agitatedly whenever I'm in the barn.
