Child Labour in Egypt
2014 figures of the US Bureau of International Labor Affairs indicate that about a million kids between the ages of 5 and 14 work in Egypt in the agriculture, industry and services sectors. The work is long - 11 hours a day, seven days a week - and for the seasonal agricultural workers it's carried out under a 40C sun with nearly all reporting beatings from foremen. We know quite a few of them by sight but this boy tending his corn on the cob grill is new to us. He keeps the charcoal glowing using his white plumage fan, held in his right hand.
