My City: Day 1845: Toronto
It has been a busy May as I prepared for a two person show at Steam Whistle Gallery...Urban Icons...and now a short break before I do something different with my "art"
Urban Icons explores the relationship between a vast expansive view of the city as a monolithic entity and the scale of the experiences of the city dwellers in their daily lives. The paintings and mixed media works of Carmela Casuccio and Jamie MacRae juxtapose macro and micro images of vast cities with moments in time within the city.
Carmela Casuccio’s acrylic cityscape paintings on canvas are studies in the complexity, power and the unlimited possibilities that exist in the structures of cities. Jamie MacRae’s mixed media works combine his original photography with acrylic paint, layered beneath resin. They are up close and intimate moments; a brief glimpse into urban city life that capture the energy of the city, its people and environment.
These images are the icons of today’s world – the massive interconnected intricacies of cities where the majority of the world’s population now lives and the fleeting timeless moments that are representative of the many moments, that when added together, become a city, always moving forward.
