Holy crap

I heard a bird squawking loudly on my walk tonight and eventually found two flickers flapping around on this tree. They were obviously upset, but I just assumed one was a fledgling calling for help. When I looked at the photos on my iPad I saw the reason for the uproar was a huge black snake in what must have been the flickers' nest hole - I felt awful that I didn't help them, although I guess I really couldn't have done anything. I never thought a snake could get this high up a tree. (I also never considered that there were snakes this big in my general proximity).
